Choosing the Correct Braid Width- 1. Use a desoldering braid equal in width to pad and tip size. Use a slightly smaller width desoldering braid and cut at an angle to fit larger pad. Folding braid allows more solder to be wicked in a single pass. 2.Desired Speed of Operation For a larger solder beads, a wider braid is recommended for single pass wicking. Repeat applications subject component and pad to unnecessary prolonged heat. Wider braid allows the entire solder beads to be wicked in a single pass, speeding up the repair process. Desoldering braid is used to remove solder, which allows components to be replaced and<br> excess solder to be removed. Techspray desoldering braid combines innovative product design with proprietary processing. All this plus exacting quality control makes Techspray the top name in wick! 3.Size of Pad or Connection If desoldering braid is too wide, it will restrict heat transfer to the connection, resulting in increased heating time and slower wicking action. If braid is too narrow, more applications will be required to remove all the solder. The width of the braid should match the width of the pad or solder ball. Various techniques can be used to best match the braid to individual desoldering requirements (right).
